Description

Ivory black pigment was originally made by charring ivory and bone.  This pigment, perfected by Ocres de France in 2021, is a very close substitute, made from iron oxides and plant-based charcoal. The name remains as a descriptor of the colour.

Ivory black is a slightly blueish-black and very dense and opaque pigment.

Ivory black gives a dark grey with a clear binder and a beautiful dark charcoal/anthracite colour in a white binder.

Ivory black is non-toxic and safe for you and the environment.

Noir d’Ivoire with linseed oil
Linseed oil : dilute the powder in some turpentine oil before adding it to linseed oil.
Paint with water/lime paste : dilute the pigment in some water to make it liquid before incorporating it into the paint.
Lime powder/cement/plaster : directly incorporate the pigment (up to 10% based on the weight of the binder), then mix in order to stain all of your binder.

Maximum dosage : The maximum dosage is 10% compared to the binder used. Above 10% it is recommended to incorporate fixators and adjuvant (lime use).

These renderings can be similar for any white base mixed with this ivory black pigment. However, differences will be possible for the use of paints more or less loaded with titanium dioxide (white pigment), which will give a final color more or less light.

If you want to lighten a pigment, before coloring a transparent binder (linseed oil, wax, acryling binder, caparol, flour, etc), you can mix it with blanc Tiona 595 (white Tiona).

Color : Ivory black pigment is dark gray with a clear binder. With a white binder, ivory black gives us a beautiful anthracite.

Ivory black pigment is 100% natural.

Made in France.
History : The real black Ivory was obtained by the calcination of animals bones. Since a long time and fortunately for our friends the animals, it is now obtained from iron oxides. The name has remained to signify the ressemblance of color.
